Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an Operational radiation protection and waste management specialist to be engaged on a permanent basis in Saudi Arabia.
Job Summary / Profile:
This is a technical role within the National Center for Radioactive Waste Management (NCRWM). The NCRWM has the responsibility to coordinate the development of the Saudi national infrastructure for radioactive waste management and to operate national facilities for the storage and disposal of radioactive waste.
The NCRWM has a need for an experienced operational radiation protection and waste management specialist to join the team and support the establishment and implementation of arrangements that support the operation of the Waste Facility and compliance with the standards for safety and security as well as regulatory requirements and guidance.
The NCRWM is also focusing on the development of its human and technical capability. With that mind, the individual is required to take a lead or support the development and implementation of plans to build the NCRWM human and technical capability.
Reports To: Manager of the NCRWM
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Review the Waste Facility arrangements (plans, programs, processes, procedures… etc.) and identify gaps to meet regulatory requirements and agreed standards for safety and security.
2. Assist with the development and implementation of technical and non-technical plans, procedures and other arrangements, as required, to support the NCRWM activities and the maintenance of the Waste Facility safety case.
3. Manage the Waste Facility improvement program
4. Provide technical advice and expertise, and act as an intelligent customer in radiation protection and radioactive waste management.
5. Specify, manage and co-ordinate support from within the organization and other external entities, as required.
6. Support the development and implementation of plans to build the human and technical capability of the center.
7. Provide mentoring support to the NCRWM staff.
8. Work effectively and maintain strong relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge:
• Working knowledge of international standards in radiation protection and best operational practices and implementation arrangements.
• Working knowledge of radioactive waste management practices including international best practices.
• Working knowledge of policies and strategies in radioactive waste management.
• Working knowledge of standards for the security of radioactive sources and material
• Working knowledge of licensing and safety case requirements.
• Working knowledge of standards for emergency preparedness.
• Working knowledge of international regulations for the transport of radioactive material.
Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to lead scientific and technical meetings and organize conferences, workshops, training events, etc.
• Ability to interact and to build and maintain collaborative partnerships across organizational boundaries and ability to interact effectively with internal and external counterparts in a multicultural environment with respect and sensitivity for diversity.
Certification and Experience:
• Radiation protection professional experienced in operational radiation protection in radioactive waste or nuclear facilities
• Radioactive waste management professional experienced in the design and operation of radioactive waste management facilities.
• Holder of recognized certificates or member of a recognized society in radiation protection and radioactive waste management.
• Experience in the transport of radioactive material.
• Experience in writing technical specifications for the procurement services related to radioactive waste management.
• Experience in the role of intelligent customer.
