Scenic Paint Assistant Start Date August 2023 Employment Type Full Time Closing Date for Applications June 2023 Scope of the Job Responsible to: Associate Programme Leader- Production Arts Responsible for: Production Arts Department Works Closely with: Production Department and other staff Job Purpose The scenic paint assistant is responsible for supporting the Scenic Paint Tutor in teaching and creating scenic art for theatrical productions and other events. Duties and Responsibilities Preparing surfaces: The scenic paint assistant is responsible for preparing surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and priming as needed. Mixing paints: The assistant may be asked to mix paints to the exact color and consistency required for the project. Paint application: The assistant assists the scenic paint tutor and students in applying paint to the scenery using a variety of techniques, such as brush, roller, or spray gun. Maintenance of equipment: The assistant helps maintain painting equipment by cleaning brushes, rollers, spray guns and other tools, and making sure they are stored properly. Communication: The assistant communicates with other members of the production team, the students and the scenic paint tutor to assist with project delivery. Safety: The assistant ensures that all safety protocols are followed when working with tools in the paint shop and with paints and solvents. Organization: The assistant helps to keep the paint area and workspace organized and clean. Other duties as assigned: The scenic paint assistant may be asked to perform other duties as needed to support the scenic paint tutor and the production team. Key Interactions The scenic Paint Assistant is part of the Production Arts Department and is directly responsible to the Associate Programme Leader and Programme Leader - Production Arts. Knowledge and Experience Essential: Knowledge of basic painting techniques and tools Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with others Attention to detail and ability to work with precision Good communication and organizational skills Physical ability to lift and move equipment and materials as needed Familiarity with safety protocols related to the paint shop, painting and working with chemicals Desirable: Prior experience in scenic painting or related will be preferred.
